Hundreds of thousands of horror movie fans got terrified by the first trailer for the Slender Man movie on Wednesday. But one man isn’t scared — he’s pissed.
In case you’ve never heard the story of the real-life crime inspired by the CreepyPasta-created boogeyman, back in 2014 two 12-year-old girls — Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser — lured their friend Peyton Leutner to a park and stabbed her 19 times.
They admitted the crime to police but explained they had to kill her to protect their families from the Slender Man. Spooky stuff.
Now Bill Weier, father of Anissa, has told the Associated Press he thinks the movie is in “extreme poor taste” given what his and other families went through. Weier hopes local Wisconsin theaters will refuse to screen it when it comes out on May 18.
Sony has yet to respond publicly to his complaints. It’s unclear if the film will resemble the real case at all; though the trailer does feature a shot (above) which shows a wall covered in drawings that look very much like those made by Geyser.
What do YOU think?
